Hiking The Narrows Winter Edition!

In my honest opinion, the best time to hike The Narrows in Zion National Park is in the winter. Very low crowds, especially in the water. We rented dry suits from Zion Guru which kept us completely dry. The only exception is if you fall in and water pours into your dry suit. At that point your only option would be to get to a dry spot and change into dry clothes before hypothermia sets in. The winter dry suit package comes with a walking stick and special shoes with good ankle support. This gear is essential for a safe and fun hike in The Narrows. I hiked all the way to the end, Big Springs. Absolutely stunning hike with frozen waterfalls everywhere. Only saw a handful of folks in the water. The adventure is mostly flat but a good 6 miles back to Big Springs. Accompanied by the fast flowing Virgin River, makes this a strenuous hike. I have also hiked this trail in October which was also amazing, but much more traffic that time of year. Another perk of hiking The Narrows in the winter is that the road is open to traffic, so you can drive on into Zion without being stuck on bus schedules. One more tip would be to bring a dry bag inside your pack if you have the worry of falling in.
